Cheltenham Local Meeting House Location
The Cheltenham Friends Meeting House is within easy walking distance of the town centre. It is on the north side of the dual carriageway Fairview Road/St Margaret’s Road. The Meeting House entrance is in Warwick Place, a small cul-de-sac running east off Portland Street, not always shown well on street maps of Cheltenham. There is pedestrian access at the east end of Warwick Place from the junction of Winchcombe Street and Fairview Road.
There are several steps up to the Meeting House front door, but wheelchair access is available via a side gate to the right of the building (contact us for the keycode). That gives access to the courtyard and thence via a ramp to the rear door. Disabled badge holders may park in Warwick Place.
The Portland Street and North Place car parks are pay-and-display 7 days a week. Streets in the immediate area are mostly either no-parking or residents-only parking. Unless you have a blue badge you can't park a car adjacent to the Meeting House.
Our postcode GL52 2NP is not very useful for satellite navigations systems. However, if you use the "what3words" location system for pedestrian navigation on your smartphone, ///enjoyable.menu.kept will get you to our door.

TRAVELLING BY CAR:
The road system in Cheltenham is quite complex, and it is difficult to give universally applicable instructions. Coming to Cheltenham from most directions, simply following signs for the town centre should get you quite close to the Meeting House, but your initial approach may be on the other (south) side of the central pedestrian area. Access from the south has recently been made more awkward by the closure of Clarence Street at Boots Corner, but without signing alternative routes. Thus the webmaster is still considering how to modify the map and edit the advice on this page in a way that will be helpful yet concise. In addition to the one-way traffic directions indicated by arrows on the map, note that Albion Street, east of Portland Street, has a contraflow bus & cycle lane westbound. Similarly Portland Street, north of St Margaret’s Road, has a contraflow bus & cycle lane southbound. The Portland Street car park has exits and entrances on both Portland Street and North Place.
Note that M5 junction 10 has access only to and from the north; traffic coming from the south should exit for Cheltenham at junction 11.
TRAVELLING BY BUS:
The local bus service is sparse on Sunday, but a “D” bus from Bishops Cleeve usually passes southbound through Portland Street just before 10:30. Other buses operate in various directions to and from stops in Pittville Street (adjacent to the side door of M&S) and Clarence Street (bottom left corner of the map adjacent). The long-distance coach station where several National Express services stop is in Royal Well Road, a one-way street. Walking northeastwards along it (ie the same direction as the taxi & bus traffic flow) will take you via Clarence Parade to traffic lights at the T-junction with Clarence Street. Turn right and follow Clarence Street around a bend to the left and onto the map above. Allow about 10 minutes to walk to the Meeting House from the coach station.
TRAVELLING BY RAIL:
The rail station is Cheltenham Spa, well outside the town centre on Gloucester Road. The D bus stop for the town centre is on the station forecourt at the exit to the car park. On Sundays the most suitable currently-scheduled bus for getting to Meeting for Worship leaves the Station at 09:50 and stops at Clarence Street (see above) at 10:00.
IF YOU GET LOST:
Should you need to seek directions from local people, it’s useful to know that some nearby sites and businesses may be better-known than the Meeting House itself. The Meeting House is near the Paint-it-yourself Pottery Co. on Winchcombe Street, and is across the dual carrigeway from Tredz (Cycle Republic)and the Cotswold pub.
