Sanctuary Meeting

Cheltenham is proud to be a ‘Sanctuary Meeting’, encouraging a culture of welcome.

Sanctuary Meetings are committed to joining local initiatives to build a culture of welcome, building alliances with groups opposing racism and to work to change the laws on destitution, detention, deportations and removals.

Rooted in the conviction that God resides within every person, Quakers across Britain are working to welcome people seeking sanctuary.

Organisations working for racial justice are particularly encouraged to use our premises and are not charged.

For example, Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees (CWR) holds committee meetings, a weekly hub and a Saturday coffee morning in our Meeting House.
